Yuvraj Singh – A Short Profile

One of the most important pillars of Indian batting is Yuvraj Singh Bhandal. Actually, very few people know his last name as he is popularly known only as Yuvraj Singh or Yuvi. The batting southpaw is known for his natural attacking batting instincts. Yuvraj was born on December 12, 1981. He made his international debut for India against New Zealand in the year 2003.

In his international career his six sixes in a T20 match against England during the T20 World Cup, his extraordinary performance in the recently concluded ICC World Cup are some of the highlights of his glittering career.

He is the best fielder in the Indian side who fields at the point position. However, players like Suresh Raina and Virat Kohli are also known for their brilliant fielding and are compared with Yuvraj Singh.

However, his early career dates back to the same year (2000), when he made his first international appearance against Kenya. He was one of the members of the U19

Indian cricket team for the 2000 World Cup which was held in Sri Lanka. But as far as his international performance is concerned, he showed it in his second match against the then might Australia when he scored 84 runs off 82 balls.

His ups and downs though continued throughout his career. He had been dropped, rested, ignored or had to sit out due to injury concerns. His prime reason for getting injured was the point region where he fields. Normally, this place is taken by the best fielder in the team. Therefore, it shows what quality fielder Yuvraj Singh is.

For the 2011 ICC World Cup, he was named the Man of the Tournament. He performed well both with the bat and the ball. On some occasions, it was his bowling that outdid his batting – for which he is known.
He was also appointed the vice-captain of Team India for a brief period during the 2007-2008 season.
