The prolific Australian former captain and a member of the national side Ricky Ponting, has announced his decision to call it a day from Test cricket. Ricky Ponting will play his last Test match against South Africa that will get underway from tomorrow – November 30. Playing against South Africa, Ponting has been able to score only 20 runs in the two Tests he has played in this series where he got to bat three times. What is hurting Ponting is the way he is being dismissed. He has been out bowled on two occasions in the same match this time around. This has happened only for the second time in Tests for him.
Ricky Ponting will play his last – 168th Test match – the same which Steve Waugh played for Australia. So he will be the joint record holder for the Aussies. Ponting scored 13,366 runs until now that includes 41 centuries. The 41 centuries is a record for Australia in Tests until now. He has had a healthy average of 52.21. The only chance of making these numbers feel even better is when he gets at least two chances to bat against South Africa.
