Finally, he gave way and the old monkey fell down with a thud on a big boulder on the bank of the river. The king, who had come there with a cruel plan of hunting, was watching all this from the other end. He thought that the old monkey was really the king of the clan and cared for his people (monkeys). He really led the clan in getting all and sundry to safety. For that he had to take such a huge risk; but he was ready for the same.
Just as the king was thinking this, he felt like having a look at the monkey from close quarters. He walked up to the animal that almost looked like counting his final moments. But he was alive when the king walked up to him. Seeing him alive, the king felt a bit relieved. He sat down and supported his head with his own body.
He felt sorry for the diseased monkey and he expressed his emotions unto him. He realized what the aged monkey might be going through when he was guiding all the others to safety. As a king, he did not take too long to understand the mentality of the monkey in taking everyone to safety not caring for his own life.
He asked the money why he took such a big risk at that age of his life. The monkey replied that he was the elderly figure in the clan and that it was his duty to protect his juniors. It does not matter if he loses his life in the process. If others are benefitted by his death, he would not mind doing so.
It was a big lesson that he learnt that day. The king wondered even when the monkey was not the king of the clan, he led down his life for others. No need to say, he stopped hunting for good.
